`Will you help little Amina Shaikh regain her hearing & speech please?`

We have received a very sad case from our partners in India, one and half years old little girl Amina Shaikh has a congenital defect because of which she cannot hear and speak, a treatment by the name of Cochlear Implant seems to be the only solution in which a device is implanted in the cochlear region of the skull, this treatment if successful enables a child to hear which in turn leads to speech being restored, the younger the age the more the possibility of success.

Cost of the treatment is in the region of £8,000, Amina`s family is not in a position to pay for the treatment. We at the MWI have initially allocated an amount of £2,500 and a humble appeal is being made to all brothers & sisters to donate whole heartedly so that Amina`s treatment can take place, Zakaah & Sadaqah donations welcome.

Moulana Mohammad of Blackburn in Ahmedabad

Moulana Mohammad Sidat of Blackburn arrived in Ahmedabad on Sunday 19th August (Eid day in the UK) and had the opportunity of distributing Eid Gift Packs to many hundreds of families living in the joparpattis in and around Ahmedabad. Many of these Eid Packs had been financed by the Jameah Masjid of Blackburn and therefore it was a fitting gesture that the packs be distributed by Moulana personally being a representative of the Masjid.

Moulana Mohammad was a first timer in Ahmedabad and was moved by the level of poverty he witnessed, he recalls:

`I just couldn`t believe what I was seeing, I never thought that there would be so many poor people in Ahmedabad,
the families were living in the worst of conditions one could imagine and at many places it was difficult to stand for more than 5 minutes, such was the level of poverty, the smiles and happiness on the faces of the families especially the children when they were given the Eid Packs will remain with me for a very long time to come.`

One new Masjid & 4 new Ibadat Khanas

It was the last Friday of Ramadhan when a few relations of Blackburn got together and pledged an amount of £20,000 to construct one new Masjid and 4 new Ibadat Khanas in India. The constructions will take place in the Kathiawad District, the level of ignorance about Islam amongst the villagers was a shocking experience for our local India representative who travelled there from Ahmedabad, he recalls:

`I had never ever thought that there would be any Muslim in the state of Gujarat who would not be familiar with the Kalimah and namaz etc., however, I was proven wrong during my visit to the Kathiawad District, here I met people upon people, all identifying themselves as Muslims but alas hardly anyone knew the kalimah and namaz was mostly non-existent, the ignorance of the masses together with the level of poverty was beyond belief, it is a pleasure to be part of the MWI`s efforts to educate the masses with the construction of a Masjid and 4 Ibadat Khanas which will serve as Masjids and Maktabs for the locals.` May The Almighty reward the families that donated towards these Ibadat Khanas and the new Masjid, Ameen.

Total cost of the operation and machine was £13,000. The family set out to raise as much as possible by selling their ornaments and borrowing as much money as possible, they were £1,000 short of their target. When the MWI heard of Safvan` s story, we requested a family in Blackburn who happily donated the remainder £1,000. Safvan had the operation and the machine has been implanted.
